Babies and toddlers (0 to 3 years): movement and development

Support for early movement and play, from the first weeks to the first steps and beyond, with practical guidance for parents at home. Including babies born early.

Why parents come

Most children develop at their own pace, and the ranges are wide. Asking early is never a mistake.

  • Your baby does not like tummy time
  • Rolling, sitting or crawling seems late
  • Your toddler is not walking yet, or often walks on tiptoes
  • Your baby was born early and you would like a check
  • The body seems very stiff or very floppy, or one side is used much more than the other
  • You have questions about walkers, screens or floor time

Good to know for parents

  • Floor play matters: for babies who are not yet moving around, the WHO recommends at least 30 minutes of tummy time a day, spread through the day
  • Some healthy babies never crawl, and that is fine
  • Most children walk alone between 12 and 15 months. If your child is not walking by 18 months, talk to your paediatrician
  • Baby walkers do not help babies walk, may delay walking and cause many injuries
  • Born early? Use the corrected age (counted from the due date) until about 2 years
  • For babies under one year, the WHO recommends no screen time. Video calls with family are fine

What we do together

A play-based check of how your baby moves and plays, then simple ideas for home: positions, toys, floor time and how to help without rushing. Parents are always part of the session.

Good to know

I describe how your baby moves and plays. I do not diagnose: if something needs a medical opinion, I will tell you, and you can talk to your paediatrician.
